Microsoft’s Acid Reflux

Microsoft recently claimed, among other things, that they follow browser standards and that indications otherwise are only myths. Below are results from the ACID 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_3) tests I conducted with all browsers I happened to have, including Internet Explorer 8. I was surprised by the results, but I really should not have been.

First, all the other browsers:

safari

Safari

Safari on the iPod Touch

Safari on the iPod Touch

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

Firefox 3.5

Firefox 3.5

Opera 10 beta

Opera 10 beta

And now for the main event. Since Microsoft claimed that they have followed standards with IE8 I was actually expecting a reasonable score. But that clearly was a mistake. I forgot that Microsoft doesn’t care about product quality, when lying is so much easier. Below is the pitiful IE 8 result.

I noticed that the Compatibility View button was available. So, just for fun, I clicked that. And what fun it is.

A word to Microsoft. We know you suck. So just stop lying about it. You are not a market leader because your products are good. You are a market leader because you lie, scam and cheat. Shameful really.

I’d be interested to see how the new IE does in the ACID2 test. Maybe Microsoft a referring to the web standards from yesteryear?

Well IE8 does pass Acid2. However, that is even more sad. Their brand new technology (and they have harped on how advanced IE8 is) is just able to meet standards that are completely surpassed. Interesting that such a huge company with so many resources is outdone by everyone. I think at some stage it becomes a skill to suck that much.
