A quick view to see what other intelligent people think of religion.
“We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.” ~ Gene Roddenberry

“I still say a church steeple with a lightning rod on top shows a lack of confidence.” ~ Doug McLeod
“The invisible and the non-existent look very much alike.” ~ Delos B. McKown
“The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” ~ Richard Dawkins
“What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.” ~ Christopher Hitchens
“As far as I can tell from studying the scriptures, all you do in heaven is pretty much just sit around all day and praise the Lord. I don’t know about you, but I think that after the first, oh, I don’t know, 50,000,000 years of that I’d start to get a little bored.” ~ Rick Reynolds
“Calling Atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair color.” ~ Don Hirschberg
“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” ~ Epicurus
“I’m a polyatheist – there are many gods I don’t believe in.” ~ Dan Fouts
“If it turns out that there is a God, I don’t think that he’s evil. But the worst that you can say about him is that basically he’s an underachiever.” ~ Woody Allen
“When a man is freed of religion, he has a better chance to live a normal and wholesome life.” ~ Sigmund Freud
“Atheism is a non-prophet organization.” ~ George Carlin
“Properly read, the bible is the most potent force for Atheism ever conceived.” ~ Isaac Asimov
“Animals do not have gods, they are smarter than that.” ~ Ronnie Snow

Some of these I had not read before – a big thank you for finding them!
I had a conversation with one of my Catholic friends (who’s really a Buddhist it turns out) and I was explaining that my plan for any children I have is to not allow them to join any religion until they’re 18 and able to think for themselves. Her response was “yeah, but by then it’s a lot harder for them to get into it”.
I explained that that was the point.

Love these quotes
These are -excellent- for a laugh, but if you want some specific examples with which to “re-educate” a christian, who is espousing the loving and progressive nature of their religion, have a look at evilbible.org
Asimov and Dawkins were sooo right above – the negative material in the Bible positively shits all over the common quotes from the Quran. It’s like “yeah sure, do like the Muslims do and kill all the non-believers, but first make sure they watch you torture and rape their wives, kill their children, kill their donkeys, burn their entire civilisation, exterminate their race … meanwhile I’ll be napalming them from heaven … is that it?… I guess so … yeah, then you can kill them.”
Rant complete – apologies

Well as someone who has actually decided to read the Bible to see just how “good” the “Good Book” is, I can tell you that above all the Bible is BORING and REPETITIVE and reading it is as much fun as going to the dentist for root canal work without the anesthetic. You have to read a little bit at a time or else you get horrible nightmares.
